چکیده

Soulsby, Joan and Smith, R. L. (1974). British Journal of Industrial Medicine, 31, 72-74. A simplified method of estimating urinary coproporphyrin is described, based on the method of Rimington (1971). Coproporphyrin and coproporphyrinogen are extracted into ether from acidified urine; the ether is then shaken with a solution of iodine in hydrochloric acid to oxidize any coproporphyrinogen to coproporphyrin and to extract the coproporphyrin. The solution is examined spectrophotometrically for coproporphyrin at the peak of the Soret band and at wavelengths on either side to correct for any impurities present. A comparison with themethod ofRimington (1971) in 94 urine samples with coproporphyrin levels up to 2 5 mg/l showed good agreement. Correlation coefficient (r) = +0-986. One hundred estimations can be carried out in five hours.

A simplified method for rapid determination of porphyrins by thin-layer chromatography.

Free porphyrins, especially copro-, uro-, and protoporphyrin, were successfully separated by talc thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and were determined from the relationship of the weight and the area of porphyrins in the spot on the thin-layer plate. The results obtained from both the solvent extraction and the simple, rapid TLC method reported in this paper showed good correlation for copropor...

A simplified method for determining erythrocyte pyrimidine 5'-nucleotidase (P5N) activity by HPLC and its value in monitoring lead exposure.

The method for determining erythrocyte pyrimidine 5'-nucleotidase (P5N EC 3.1.3.5) activity has been simplified using an automated high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC). The activity determined by the simplified method agreed closely with that obtained by conventional methods. In 161 lead workers P5N activity declined linearly with increasing blood lead concentrations (Pb-B) between 20 a...

The effects of water restriction and water loading on urinary excretion of lead, delta-aminolevulinic acid and coproporphyrin.

Alterations in daily urinary excretion of lead, delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), coproporphyrin, creatinine and total solutes following water restriction and water loading were examined in nine lead workers. Excretion of lead, ALA and total solutes was significantly decreased when urinary volume was reduced, showing that these values are dependent on urinary volume: conversely, excretion of cop...

Urinary delta aminolaevulinic acid and porphobilinogen in lead-exposed workers.

Of 100 workers exposed to lead in varying degrees, 34 had a urinary delta amino-laevulinic acid (ALA) concentration of above 0-6 mg./100 ml. and a further 35 had an ALA concentration of between 0 3 mg. and 0-6 mg./100 ml. In only 20 of the workers was the urinary porphobilinogen concentration above 0-1 mg./100 ml., two of these being above 0-2 mg./100 ml. No significant correlation was found be...

A micromethod for the quantitative determination of the urinary coproporphyrin isomers (I and III).

Previous communications (1,2) have dealt with the problem of determining the relative percent.age of the naturally occurring urinary coproporphyrin isomers, types I and III. In the first of these papers a method was described for separating small amounts of the pure isomers by means of their differential elution from aluminum oxide with 30 per cent acetone. In spite of a trial of many alternati...
